Home Exercise Equipment

Many people have made the investment of buying exercise equipment to build a home gym.

Experts suggest that we need to exercise 3 to 5 times a week to stay fit. However, getting to the gym that many times per week can be a hassle. Having fitness equipment in the home is the easiest way to work exercise into your daily life. Instead of having to pack a gym bag, drive through traffic, find parking and spend an hour sharing equipment with strangers you can just walk into your spare room and complete your exercise.

Treadmill

There are many different types of fitness equipment that people buy to create a home gym. One of the most popular and versatile is the exercise treadmill. If you only have room or the budget for one piece of exercise equipment an exercise treadmill is a good choice. With a treadmill, you can work out by walking, running or jogging. More advanced exercise treadmills come with special settings for inclines that make the workout intense and varied. Treadmills offer a quick and simple aerobic activity. The only drawback is that walking and jogging may get too monotonous for you.

Exercise Bikes

Exercise bikes are another good choice for aerobic activity. Stationary bicycles provide all of the fitness benefits of riding a bike without the hassle of dealing with inclement weather. Most exercise bikes are similar in function to regular bikes. You place your feet on the pedals and hold onto the handlebars. However, there are multi-trainer exercise bikes that work out both your arms and your legs. These types of bikes have movable handlebars that give resistance training to your arms while you are exercising your legs by pedaling.

Pilates Equipment

Pilates equipment helps to increase strength and flexibility. The Pilates work out can be done with or without equipment. If you have the room and the budget, owning your own Pilates equipment can help you achieve better results than doing floor Pilates. The equipment provides resistance to your muscles to make them work harder, and it also reinforces the proper form. Full scale Pilates equipment isn’t practical for home use but several manufacturers have put together compact systems that help you achieve the same results.

Weight Benches

Weight benches are another popular form of exercise equipment. A weight bench will normally come with different sizes of dumbbells so you can increase the weight that you are lifting. The standard weight bench will include a set of hand weights and a dumbbell bar with exchangeable weights. Some models even have devices attached to work the leg muscles and back. There are a wide variety of weight benches to choose from so you can pick a model that fits your budget and fitness goal.

Purchasing Equipment

When purchasing a piece of exercise equipment it is best to shop around. Once you decide what type of equipment you want to buy, compare the same equipment between different manufacturers. Decide what features are absolutely necessary for you, such as pre-programmed routines or free weights. Watch for sales at local sports equipment stores and general stores to get the best deal on your ideal piece of fitness equipment.
